Areas of Volunteering

Historic Interpreter/Tour Guide

Providing the personal tour makes all the difference in our visitor experience. We provide professional training and reference materials so staff and volunteers can provide the most accurate and educational tour experience for visitors.

Living History Interpretation

Living history is one of the most effective ways of historical interpretation. We provide visitors with ongoing living history programs throughout the year. Activities include cooking by the campfire as a soldier or cooking in the kitchen as a civilian, garden demonstrations, and musket firing demonstrations are some of the activities demonstrated for our visitors.

Gardening & Landscaping

We have a variety of areas across the Bennett Place properties, which need constant care. Our 19th century gardens grow throughout the year with seasonal vegetables and herbs. We also have Nature Trails and landscaping projects around the visitor center and picnic area. There’s nothing better than seeing plants grow and flourish.

Research & Administration

The Everett-Thissen Research Library located in the Visitor Center contains more than 1,000 volumes of books, magazines, artifacts, audio-visual materials, and other Civil War and genealogical references. There is always a need for additional research and organization in the library.
